The Diary of a Digital Marketing Apprentice: Trending Audios to Use This Month to Maximise Your Instagram Reels’ Reach

It’s been a while since I wrote my last ‘Diary of a Digital Marketing Apprentice’ blog (it’s been a busy few months here at Destination Digital!), but I’m back with my latest entry so I can share the best trending audios you can use on Instagram Reels to maximise their reach.

I’m Ed, and since October 2023 I have been working through my apprenticeship in content creation and digital marketing. Instagram’s lengthy battle with TikTok to be the short form content heavyweight champ is warming up, with Meta pushing reels more and more, the battle has got more and more competitive as the days tick by. Recently, Meta has introduced content bonuses – similar to the TikTok creator fund, another tactically genius move?

Anyway, Let’s Get into the Nitty Gritty! 

Ever since their inception, Instagram Reels have been pushed by Meta as they compete with TikTok to become the short form content heavyweight champs. But, how do they achieve this? Well, an integral part of video content, be it Reels or TikToks, is music. A lot of the time, audio is the driving factor behind a viral video, which is why you’ll find yourself constantly hearing the same trending songs as people rush to create content that gets impressions.

Using the right audio can make or break a video, which is why it’s important to get it right, and most importantly, to use trending songs and audios when and where you can! Sometimes it’s not so much what people see, it’s what they hear that captures their attention.

How to Find Trending Songs and Audios on Instagram Reels?

Discovering trending songs and audios on Instagram Reels can quite challenging if you don’t know where to look, particularly if you have an Instagram Business account. Business owners find themselves faced with a limited music library, which makes them question whether it’s even worth making Instagram Reels. We’re here to tell you it definitely is worth your time (and you can find out why here!), you just need to know the right places to look. As a business ourselves, we came across this problem and wondered how other businesses manage to jump on trending audios. So, we did some digging and got two helpful blogs out of it: How to Make Reels for Business on Instagram – The Easy Way and Exploring Instagram and Reels: FAQs Answered.

In a nutshell, here’s the easiest ways to find trending audios for Instagram Reels:

  • Using ‘Templates’, an option which appears against some Instagram Reels when scrolling through your Reels feed (similar to TikTok’s ‘For You’ page).
  • At the bottom of Instagram Reels, you’ll see there’s two places you can tap on the audio: one on the left that outlines the audio creator and another on the right, with a small square that contains their image and a music note. If you tap on either of these, you get the option to ‘Use Audio’ or save for later!

Top tip: you can tell if an Instagram Reel is using a trending audio as there’ll be a little arrow pointing upwards next to it! ↗️
