London-Bound For Garden Press Event 2026

There’s something about this time of year that always brings a buzz of anticipation. Next week, Debbie will be heading south to the Business Design Centre in Islington for the annual Garden Press Event (GPE) – one of the highlights of the horticultural calendar and a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends, collaborators and the industry at large.

Our Managing Director, Debbie, is a Full Garden Media Guild Member and so would need wild horses to drag her away from Garden Press Event.

In her own words:

“This year, I’m especially looking forward to seeking out the Plant Heritage stand at Garden Press Event. Funded by Project Giving, they will have the opportunity to be represented at the 2026 RHS Chelsea Flower Show’s Missing Collector garden, designed by the Planting Design Collective. It’s going to be such an exciting project for Plant Heritage (exhausting, yes… but exciting, even more so!).

“On a personal level, it’s even more special though. My good friends Alice G. Munro and Gavin Munro of Full Grown are playing a part in the garden, and if you’ve studied the artist’s impression closely, you may have spotted something unmistakable – a beautifully grown-by-nature and sculpted-by-hand Full Grown chair positioned as a feature within the design.

“Having now seen the plot this garden will occupy – right at the bottom of Main Avenue outside the Media Centre and champagne bar – I can only imagine the impact it’s going to have for everyone involved in this garden this year. It promises to be a standout.”

A Walk Down Memory Lane: Main Avenue Moments

“Chelsea’s Main Avenue holds many memories for me. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to play a small role in some truly magical projects.

“A couple of years ago, I supported Griffin Glasshouses in amplifying their fundraising partnership with Horatio’s Garden during their Main Avenue appearance. The Horatio’s Garden, designed by Harris Bugg Studio, was later relocated to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. In a poignant twist of fate, that’s now the very hospital where someone I know is being treated following an acquired spinal injury. It’s a powerful reminder of how these gardens continue to make a difference long after show week.

“That same year, I was also working with the Baker Consultants team, who featured in the Royal Entomological Society garden designed by Tom Massey. They debuted their pioneering Soil Acoustics monitor there.  This is a world-first belowground acoustic monitoring device and will be a gamechanger in agriculture, horticulture and conservation. I remember running up and down Main Avenue all Press Day, making sure everything landed exactly as it should.

“The following year, I once again worked with Griffin Glasshouses, this time supporting their photo call on Tom Stuart-Smith’s beautifully understated Main Avenue garden, in partnership with the National Garden Scheme. Spending time inside the structure designed by Tom’s son, Ben Stuart-Smith, was a particular highlight, a quiet architectural moment amid the show’s intensity.

“Each of these experiences felt magical. It’s always a privilege to contribute, even in a very small way, to projects that combine design excellence with purpose.”

Innovation Beneath Our Feet

“Garden Press Event isn’t just about what we see above ground. If you were at the Mr Fothergill’s Seeds Press Day a few years ago, you might remember the soil health speaker I arranged, who introduced the Soil Acoustics device for monitoring subterranean activity.

“That device has since launched as a patented, world-first soil acoustic monitor. Initially aimed at the agriculture sector, its potential applications in horticulture and conservation are becoming increasingly clear.

“It’s already been featured in The Times, The Guardian, Farmer’s Guardian, New Scientist, the Gardening with the RHS podcast, BBC TV and Radio, Farming Today, and many other outlets. It’s safe to say it’s causing quite a bit of chatter, caused by the chatter that is happening beneath our feet.

“If you’re curious about soil health, belowground biodiversity or the future of acoustic monitoring in horticulture, I’m always happy to talk (at length!) about it.”

See You at GPE

So, if you’re heading to Garden Press Event next week, do come and say hello. Whether it’s to talk Chelsea, charitable partnerships, soil innovation or simply to share the excitement of the season ahead, I’d love to catch up.

And Alice and Gavin – you’re going to have the most wonderful time.
