Our step count goes up on Chelsea Press Day each year as we work our way around the site capturing the sights and sounds for our clients and support their activities at the show, meaning we are on our feet most of the day flitting between them. Due to Covid, the show took place for the first time and probably the last time ever, in September 2021. RHS Chelsea will be taking place this year in its rightful place over the week of 24-28 May 2022.
Client Darlac Tools have been a feature at the Chelsea Flower Show for over 50 years, and they will be taking up their usual spot on Eastern Avenue again next month showing off their new Axes, and showcasing their Swop Top poles. A few yards down Eastern Avenue our client Mr Fothergill’s, will also be back. Mr Fothergill’s have a strong relationship with the Chelsea Pensioners who call Royal Hospital, Chelsea their home and so it’s always good to get an opportunity to catch up with the strikingly dressed ex-servicemen and women. With seeds being sold at special show prices, they are always busy during the carnivalesque week of RHS Chelsea Flower Show and this year will be no different.
Our friends Griffin Glasshouses, in the meantime, will be taking up their usual spot on Royal Hospital Way which faces a great view of the Royal Hospital (and the snipers on the top of the building who arrive to protect the Royal visit on Press Day!). In last year’s showground configuration the Griffin stand also faced the smaller “Balcony” Show Gardens, so there was a constant stream of footfall.
This year, Griffin Glasshouses have big plans for 2022’s show with a collaboration with Horatio‘s garden to help them fundraise for this great charity.
Horatio’s Garden is a charity that fundraises to build gardens in spinal injuries units around the UK, and Griffin Glasshouses have so far supplied a glasshouse for three of their six gardens in Stoke Mandeville, Gobowen, and a third one in Cardiff.
Horatio‘s Cardiff Garden is due to be unveiled in the spring, and we can’t wait to see it. To cement their partnership, Griffin glass houses and Horatio‘s garden are teaming up with Rachel Smith, aka The Wonky Artist who is developing a painting that will be completed on Press Day at the show.
A range of celebrities have been invited to come along and contribute to the canvas, and the resulting piece will be auctioned off to raise cash for the charity to help them continue their important work. We’ll be there to capture it all on the day, so it will be a packed Press Day to get the whole event running smoothly ahead of us leaving the site when the Royal Family arrives… and who knows… maybe a member of the Royal household could be persuaded to contribute to the painting too?
For now though, our press passes are sorted, accommodation is booked and we’ve planned out our itinerary to help us work the show effectively. So now we sit back and relax and wait for the big event itself to come around. If you will be at RHS Chelsea on Press Day or Member’s Day and want to meet up for a chat, then get in touch and we can grab a coffee.
