Alongside Sheffield-based design agency Volta Creative, we pooled our resources together to create a sleek new website that’s functional and visually appealing, while also carrying out a successful site migration without losing SEO traffic or search visibility.
A family-run business since its inception in 1980, SPA Landscaping is a nationwide grounds maintenance and landscaping contractor. With over 45 years of experience on their side, they provide services all around the UK, from routine grounds maintenance for commercial properties to complete landscape renovations, tree surgery, major planting schemes for biodiversity and more.
We have been working with SPA Landscaping since 2023, providing monthly blog and case study writing to showcase their skillset, alongside SEO support, weekly LinkedIn content and running their Google Ads, too. More recently, we have been publishing weekly social media content across Facebook and Instagram as well as LinkedIn, using content provided from the SPA Landscaping team out in the field to offer real-time, seasonal updates on the work they carry out throughout the year.
We always enjoy being able to work on these projects with other local small businesses, so we were happy to team up with Darren and Carina at Volta to make SPA Landscaping Director Alex’s vision for the new website come to life. We believe it’s important to work with other close-knit businesses that understand the needs of a local, family-run business – who will see you through the process and continue to provide ongoing maintenance and support well after the go live date.
Alex was consulted at every major stage to ensure that he was happy with the layout, visuals and features, and we also worked closely with Volta to keep a close eye on bugs or any other potential issues that became apparent throughout the testing process.
SPA Landscaping wanted a website that wasn’t too dissimilar to their existing website, but still were looking for it to be refreshed and modernised – a 2.0 version. Simple touches in the design such as updated images and fade in text sections have made it more dynamic and pleasant to navigate, while still keeping the brand identity and original feel of the website intact.
Another concern was not losing the existing functionality in the backend to help track where potential leads are coming from online. Specifically, we needed to be able to identify if somebody found SPA Landscaping through organic search or via Google Ads when they fil out the contact form. We liaised with Volta to make sure that the correct plugins are in place in order to record this information.
The main focus on our end was ensuring a smooth and successful SEO migration, so as to not drop off Google search indexing once the new website was set live. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we were not able to simply export the content from the previous website and carry it over to the new one. This meant that we had to individually copy over every blog and case study from the previous website, ensuring that titles, meta descriptions and URLs remained intact from the old site – any changes or typos could negatively affect individual page indexing or create 404 errors. We’re delighted that – despite the roadblock of having to manually carry all of this information over – we were able to maintain consistent traffic throughout the switchover process, with no downtime!
