Celebrating SHE UK and Arts Derbyshire As Part of Trustees Week 2025

Charities all over the world underpin lots of areas of need in society, and we need to praise the work they do. During Trustees Week, we’re shining a light on our friends at Arts Derbyshire and at SHE UK to celebrate the hard work the Trustees of these two charities put in for our local communities.

The Importance of Charity Work in our Local Communities

Charities across the globe help put a deserved spotlight on many under-represented areas of society that need the support of others. Without the tireless work of thousands of charities, many of these groups and sectors of our community would go unnoticed and unaided in their plight. Because of the voluntary nature of charity work, it’s fundamental that we support charities in any way we can, so that they can keep up their much-needed work.

So, this Trustees Week, we’d like to mention our friends over at SHE UK to draw your focus on the work they do to help survivors of childhood sexual abuse, rape and sexual violence. Our MD Debbie Porter is also a Trustee of this charity, serving on the Board since 2023.

They help survivors through a range of therapeutic services including:

  • Telephone Support – available to those people waiting to start their therapy with SHE UK.
  • Therapeutic Counselling – SHE UK offers clients up to 2 years of therapy. This service is delivered by both qualified and trainee therapists who are undertaking their counselling qualifications.
  • SHE-roes group – The SHE-roes Lounge is a female peer support group. The aim of these sessions is to provide survivors with a safe space to meet people who have similar experiences, aid self-development through a range of educational courses and reduce feelings of isolation.

Over in our home county, our friends at Arts Derbyshire also have a range of strategic inputs to keep the arts scene in Derbyshire thriving, and we have a long relationship with this charity, spanning almost two decades, so it’s a charity that is close to our hearts. They help the local creative sector in a number of ways by:

  • Fulfilling the needs of their artists by acting as a central hub for the arts and making sure their work is advocated for.
  • Building new and ambitious partnerships with other charities, culture and education providers, health organisations and universities.
  • Supporting the delivery of targeted programmes by promoting and enabling collective working, information and skill sharing, and networking between the charity’s members.
  • Strengthening the Derbyshire cultural sector by demonstrating the value of the arts to the public, politicians, community leaders and other sectors through evidence and data.

By putting the focus on the work that they do, it’s increasingly clear that they have a vital role in supporting under-represented groups in society, but their work can only exist via your support.

Making Donations and Helping Charities

Charities often get financial support from donations alone or through the hard work of fundraising activities, so if you can, donate to charities to help with their causes.

Our friends at Arts Derbyshire raise cash from donations through Give as You Live and PayPal Donate, to keep them doing what drives them, which is to bring Derbyshire’s creative industry more recognition and bring the arts to a wider audience. Their website offers a range of different ways to donate, so check that out here:

SHE UK relies on the tireless work of the CEO who raises funds via grants. They also ask for donations via Give as You Live, Easy Fund Raising and Local Giving so they can keep survivors of childhood sexual abuse supported for and recognised in society.

Earlier this month, we helped SHE UK promote their BIG GIVE fundraiser, which led to the charity surpassing their goal of £10K by over a thousand pounds! Their website offers a range of different methods of donating, so please do go and check that out here:

If you are thinking of splashing out this Black Friday, do some good by donating via Give As You Live to raise cash for either of these charities during this busiest of shopping times of the year.
