Spring is Show Season for Soil Acoustics

Spring is shaping up to be a busy one for our friends at Soil Acoustics. With the events calendar ramping up, the team will be hitting the road over the coming months to showcase their technology at a series of leading industry events across the UK.

From ecology and nature recovery to regenerative agriculture and agri-tech innovation, each event offers an opportunity to demonstrate how listening to the soil can unlock powerful insights into land health and management.

And yes, there will be plenty of miles on the motorway, cups of coffee and conversations about worms along the way!

Ecology Expo

First up is Ecology Expo 2026 at Stoneleigh Park on 18–19 March, an event bringing together ecologists, researchers, conservation professionals and technology innovators from across the environmental sector.

At the centre of the Soil Acoustics stand will be their innovative and fully patented Soil Acoustic Meter (SAM) – a device designed to quite literally listen to the soil. By capturing the sounds produced by soil organisms, SAM provides a new way to assess biological activity and soil health using a simple rule of thumb: a healthy soil is a noisy soil. Visitors will be able to see the technology in action and discover how acoustic signals beneath our feet can be translated into meaningful, actionable data.

Director Andrew Baker will also be speaking at the event on the Thursday, delivering a talk titled “An Introduction to the Uses of Soil Acoustics.” His session will explore real-world applications of the technology, from identifying soil compaction in agricultural fields to monitoring habitat restoration projects and supporting nature recovery initiatives.

It’s an exciting glimpse into how emerging technologies are reshaping the way we measure and understand the living world beneath the surface.

Innovate UK Agrifood Showcase

The following week, the team will be back on the road and heading down the M1 to Birmingham on 26 March for the AgriFood Innovation Showcase, hosted by Innovate UK.

This year’s event focuses on “Regenerative Agriculture and Agri-Tech for a Sustainable Food Future System” – a theme that aligns closely with Soil Acoustics’ mission to improve soil understanding through innovative monitoring tools.

The showcase will explore how regenerative farming practices, combined with cutting-edge agri-tech, can enhance agricultural productivity while building more resilient, sustainable food systems.

Soil Acoustics will be exhibiting within the SME marketplace, demonstrating how the SAM can complement existing soil testing methods. While conventional tests provide valuable chemical and physical insights, SAM adds another crucial dimension: biological activity. By recording and analysing the sounds produced by soil organisms such as earthworms and other invertebrates, SAM provides a real-time snapshot of how alive and active the soil ecosystem really is.

For farmers transitioning to regenerative systems, whether that’s introducing cover crops, reducing tillage, or integrating livestock, understanding how soil biology responds to these practices is key. The SAM allows farmers and land managers to monitor biological change over time, helping them see whether management decisions are encouraging more life in the soil. In this way, acoustic monitoring acts as a powerful feedback tool, helping farmers refine their approach, measure progress, and ultimately build healthier, more resilient soils that support long-term productivity.

The AgriFood Innovation Showcase provides the perfect platform to share this work with farmers, researchers and innovators who are shaping the future of food and farming. For Soil Acoustics, it’s another opportunity to show how listening to the soil can help regenerative agriculture move from theory into measurable, practical results.

Agri-TechE NatureTech

Next stop: Hertfordshire, where the team will attend Agri-TechE’s conference “The Productive Landscape: NatureTech for Profit and Planet” on 28 April.

This one-day event will bring together farmers, researchers, technology developers and policymakers to explore how NatureTech is transforming the way ecosystems are delivered, measured and valued across the UK’s productive landscapes.

As natural capital markets and environmental land management schemes continue to develop, farms are increasingly being asked to demonstrate the ecological value of their land, whether that’s improved biodiversity, healthier soils or stronger ecosystem services. However, one of the biggest challenges in these emerging markets is proving that environmental improvements are actually taking place. Without robust, scalable monitoring tools, it can be difficult to measure progress or verify outcomes with confidence.

This is where technologies like the Soil Acoustic Meter (SAM) play an important role. By capturing the acoustic activity generated by soil organisms, SAM provides a quick, non-invasive way to assess the biological health of soil systems. In the context of natural capital and environmental schemes, this kind of monitoring can help provide supporting evidence of soil function and ecosystem activity, giving farmers and land managers a clearer picture of how their land is performing from an ecological perspective.

For Soil Acoustics, Agri-TechE offers a valuable opportunity to connect with the researchers, innovators and decision-makers shaping the future of NatureTech. It’s a chance to show how listening to the soil could become an important piece of the puzzle as the UK and other parts of the world move towards more data-driven, nature-positive land management.

Cereals

This year’s Cereals event takes place at Diddly Squat Farm on 10-11 June, and will be hosted by none other than Jeremy Clarkson. While the former Top Gear presenter may be relatively new to farming, his Clarkson’s Farm series has shone a spotlight on the realities of agriculture and brought farming issues to a much wider audience.

With thousands of visitors expected across the two-day event, live demonstrations and exhibitor zones will keep the schedule packed. The Soil Acoustics team is anticipating a busy few days, and we’ll be attending alongside them to provide support and help them make the most of what’s expected to be a bigger-than-ever show.

It’s the perfect place for the team to connect with farmers, agronomists and industry professionals curious about how soil acoustics could fit into their management toolkit. There’s also the small matter of celebrity spotting. Director Saffron has already ticked Kaleb Cooper off the list at LAMMA last year, so the next mission might just be completing the full Clarkson’s Farm cast line-up!

Groundswell

Last but certainly not least, the team will once again be attending Groundswell, the Regenerative Agriculture Festival, on 1-2 July.

Now firmly established as one of the most important events in the regenerative farming calendar, Groundswell brings together thousands of farmers, advisors, researchers and innovators who are all passionate about improving soil health and building more resilient farming systems.

For Soil Acoustics, it’s a natural fit. With regenerative agriculture placing soil biology front and centre, the festival provides the perfect setting to showcase how acoustic monitoring can help farmers better understand the living systems beneath their feet.

And, as anyone who has attended Groundswell will know, it’s also one of the best places for conversations, collaboration and new ideas to flourish.

With a spring schedule this jam-packed, Soil Acoustics is proving that soil doesn’t have to be silent. From hands-on demos and insightful talks to celebrity farm encounters and festival vibes, they’re showing the UK that listening to the ground beneath our feet can change the way we farm, conserve, and care for the land. We can’t wait to see them in action at every stop, cheering them on, sharing the story and spreading the word about just how exciting soil science can be. Here’s to a season full of noise and a few well-earned coffee (and wine) breaks along the way!
