Soil Acoustics Earns Green Growth 100 Spot for Sustainable Agritech Innovation

We’re delighted to share that our friends at Soil Acoustics have been named in Small Business Britain’s Green Growth 100 — a list celebrating 100 UK small businesses that are leading the way in sustainability-driven innovation.

For a company that officially established at the tail-end of 2024, Soil Acoustics’ rise has been nothing short of impressive. A sister company to our long-time collaborators at Baker Consultants, the team has combined scientific expertise with practical on-farm insight to create technology that responds to one of agriculture’s biggest challenges: understanding and protecting soil health.

Their journey began with early demonstrations of the technology at RHS Chelsea 2023, when the concept of “listening to soil” was still new to many in the industry. Fast-forward to today, and that early innovation has evolved into a patented, field-ready device, the Soil Acoustic Meter (SAM), now being used by major names including Moët Hennessy, Wildfarmed, Yeo Valley, Ruinart and First Milk.

At the heart of Soil Acoustics’ work is a simple but powerful idea: “a healthy soil is a noisy soil”. By placing a probe into the ground, SAM records the subtle sounds created by soil invertebrates and microbial life. These sound patterns provide a proxy for biodiversity, giving farmers and land managers a rapid, science-backed snapshot of soil health without the need for lab testing or disruptive sampling.

This matters more than ever. As farmers and conservationists face growing pressure to farm productively while protecting natural resources, reliable soil data is essential. Traditional testing methods can be slow, costly and labour-intensive. Soil Acoustics offers a faster, more practical alternative that fits into real-world farm operations.

The sustainability story doesn’t stop at the product itself. Soil Acoustics has built a lean, low-impact operating model, working remotely and using cloud-based systems for data analysis. On the ground, their technology helps reduce tractor passes, labour time and soil disturbance, while enabling more targeted use of fertilisers and pesticides. The result is a win-win: lower costs for farmers and lighter environmental impact.

It’s this combination of commercial viability and environmental benefit that makes their Green Growth 100 recognition so fitting. The initiative, launched by Small Business Britain in partnership with BT, highlights companies proving that sustainability is not just a moral imperative but a genuine driver of business growth. From reducing waste and energy use to rethinking supply chains and attracting sustainability-minded customers, the businesses featured show that greener practices can also be smarter business.

On Thursday 12 March, the team at Soil Acoustics will travel to London for a celebratory evening where two exceptional businesses will be awarded a £5,000 Green Growth Award grant to accelerate their sustainability ambitions.

Simply being named on the list is already a significant achievement and a testament to the dedication, innovation and hard work the team has invested over the past few years. But as the big night approaches, we’ll certainly be keeping our fingers crossed for them!

The grant itself is more than just recognition — it has the potential to be a real catalyst for growth, helping Soil Acoustics further develop their technology, expand their reach and strengthen their presence on the global stage. For a company already pushing boundaries in sustainable agritech, it could mark the start of an exciting new chapter.
