How To Schedule Social Posts Natively For Free

Hootsuite, Buffer, Later, Sprout Social all help you to schedule social posts on your social media platforms, but they costs thousands in licence fees. Did you know that you can schedule posts ‘natively’ on a number of platforms for free and all you need is your mobile phone to do it. Part of a series of articles to accompany the FSB Bootcamp in Derby’s Pride Park, September 2025.

You might have already read our articles on essential smart phone accessories to enhance what you can get out of your smart phone to help you up your digital marketing game. We also wrote a blog about the apps we have on our phones to help us perform a lot of digital marketing tasks whilst on the go – no laptop required!

In this blog we will show you how to use some of those apps to save you some time by scheduling posts in advance. Making social posts in batches when you ‘have a minute’ is the perfect way to slot this into your every day life without social media management taking over all your attention.

Read on for how to save thousands of pounds in fees to scheduling tools by using the native apps instead.

How to schedule posts in the Instagram app for free

The native scheduling tool on the Instagram app helps you to schedule posts in advance, and once you know where the scheduling option is hidden, it’s really very straightforward.  Take a look at this Reel below for a ‘how to’:

How to find the posts you have scheduled in the Instagram app 😜

It’s one thing knowing how to schedule post, but what about finding them again? There are two ways to find the posts you have scheduled, which is crucial if you want to check them over, or realise you now need to reschedule some of them to accommodate another content idea you have had.

The Reel below shows you how to find your content in the inner workings of your Instagram app on your phone:

How to schedule posts in the LinkedIn app for free

If you use LinkedIn a lot (and if you are a small business owner, you really ought to), then you might want to save yourself time when using the app by scheduling in advance. You can schedule posts you have written using the method in this Reel below, or as shown here, you can also schedule reposts of other people’s content too, to fill out your timelines.

If you are also responsible for running your Company Page on LinkedIn there is a very similar (but not entirely the same!) method for scheduling posts to your business’ page too, so stick it out for the 56 seconds it takes to watch the video to learn how!

How to find the posts you have scheduled in the LinkedIn app – because they aren’t easy to find!

LinkedIn don’t make it easy to find the posts you have scheduled on their app, so we have also put this Reel together show you exactly what to click on to find the posts you have in your scheduled items.

How to schedule Facebook posts on your mobile phone

This one is tricky! Scheduling on Facebook is best done on your laptop, or via the Meta Business Suite app.  This Reel shows how you can access scheduling on your Facebook app, but once you have scheduled it, it disappears and you can’t retrieve it again to edit it like you can with Instagram and LinkedIn.  So only use this if you are in a bind, and otherwise use your full laptop environment to schedule posts on Facebook via Meta Business Suite.
