In the short time we’ve been working with the SPA Landscaping Ltd group of companies, we’ve already seen great gains made on inbound enquiries for the products and services of the group.
Established in 1980, brother and sister team Alex and Laurie have taken up the baton from their father and now lead a team of nearly 40 employees across three brands. Based in Sheffield, the company started as a landscaping contractor business, and this side of the business still runs today with the landscaping and grounds maintenance services side of the business covering hundreds of sites across England from the West Midlands up to the North East and North West of England.
If you have ever visited Thorpe Business Park, The NHS Hospital in Barnsley, The BMW Head Office or maybe even spotted one of the green roofs they maintain, you will have seen the work of the SPA Landscaping team. The company has worked with many of their sites for many years, looking after the grounds, reworking landscaping schemes and carrying out heavy maintenance duties like crown lifting of trees.
Through their landscaping contracting work, the team found themselves taking on contracts to knock in hectares of wooden posts for tree planting projects, so out of necessity they went on the hunt for tools to help them work through the job quicker and more safely, especially on sites where machine access isn’t possible, such as in upland situations quite common in forestry projects. When Alex, Laurie and team found the Petrol Post Driver, they knew they had found the answer to their quest, and were so impressed by the tool that they established Easy Petrol Post Driver, to sell on the post driver to other landscaping companies.
Similarly, SPA Machinery was born out of a need to find a way to work grounds maintenance contracts effectively and efficiently at properties where pressure washers aren’t always appropriate to use or cause too much mess with the water and debris run off. The team found the Westermann range of moss clearing machines and became sole importers, now selling them across the UK to groundsmen, property maintenance companies, landscaping firms, public gardens owners and private estate managers.

We’ve spent our time in the year so far unravelling a number of code implementation and account structure issues to enable budget management on the accounts to run more smoothly.
Both e-commerce websites are Shopify sites, with one of them relatively new having been recently migrated. Shopify of course, comes with its own sets of peculiarities when it comes to implementing tracking code and so as part of taking on the PPC, we first set to work setting up Google Tag Manager to get GA4 in place to future-proof the website tracking when Google sunset Universal Analytics in the summer this year.
We also set up Google Shopping feeds on both e-commerce sites to feed into Google Merchant Centre to run both organic and paid listings, and it might be this act alone that has seen stunning results happen overnight with a return of revenue that’s 19 times the spend on the ads account. Whatever way you look at the cost of sales, that’s one very healthy return on ad spend.
