FSB Networking In Bakewell In Quarter Two 2024

It has been a brilliant start of the year when it comes to the 2024 networking sessions hosted at our office in Bakewell. We have plenty scheduled in quarter two as we make our way from spring to summer, so read on!

The Federation of Small Business networking events hosted by our Managing Director, Debbie, have gotten off to a flying start in 2024, and we have no plans for them to slow down anytime soon!

Recap on January 2024’s Session: Emily Coy, Business Butterflies

Our first speaker of the year was Emily Coy from Business Butterflies, who Is an experienced business coach and regularly attends our networking sessions, she spoke about three key factors every business owner should use to grow.

She uses growth strategies from the Pumpkin Plan book written by Mike Michalowicz and is one of very few people who are certified to deliver and apply coaching strategies from the Pumpkin Plan in the UK.

Our next speaker of the year was Tony Walker CBE DL, Tony has had a wide range of prestigious jobs in his lifetime, Including being former Managing Director of Toyota Europe, the former High Sheriff of Derbyshire and many more.

Tony spoke about what the King’s award for Enterprise is, and why small business owners should consider applying. Out of all the winners In the UK, over 95% have been small businesses, so If you haven’t ever thought this Is an option for you, we think you should definitely consider it!

Recap on March 2024’s Session: Summa Watson, Derbyshire County Council

Summa joined us In March, and she is a Disability Employer Engagement Officer for Derbyshire County Council. Her talk showed how DCC can offer signposting and support to employers who have employees with disabilities, long term health conditions and hidden disabilities, and what they can do to support them.

Summa also spoke about a toolkit that her and the team were setting up, and what employers can do to support her in getting it off the ground.

Q2 sessions: Hear from Angela Williamson in April 2024


The first speaker In April will be Angela Williamson from Peak District Counselling.  Angela is an attendee of our networking events, and she is also a tenant at Peak District National Park HQ, which means she won’t have to travel far!

Angela is a psychotherapist/counsellor accredited with the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). She works from her private practice, Peak District Counselling, here in Bakewell. Angela’s career path is people centred from her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, experience built in various roles within industry, love of training and now as a counsellor.

Angela will be speaking about how stress can affect small business owners, and will help us explore strategies for coping.

Q2 sessions: We Invite Paul Dolan, IFA, to Join Us in May 2024

Our next speaker joining us In May, is Independent Financial Advisor – Paul Dolan, from Basecamp Financial Planning. Paul is also a regular attendee of our FSB networking session.

He has over twenty years of experience in financial services and is a qualified member of the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Personal Finance Society, the professional body for the Financial Planning industry in the UK.

Owner-operators and sole Directors occupy a unique position In the world of business, where the needs of the business, and the financial life of Individuals In that position can be tightly entwined and so Paul will be giving us tips on maximising our fortunes for best efficiencies.

Peter Dewhurst, Chairman of the Board for Business Peak District, Confirmed for Our First Q3 Session in June!

We’re pleased to share that our guest speaker in June will be Peter Dewhurst, Chairman of the Board for Business Peak District (BPD).

Peter began his career running his own business before becoming the head of the University of Derby’s Buxton-based operation. He subsequently served as both the University’s Director of Strategic Partnerships and Projects.

Peter is keen to share BPD’s priorities for action with FSB members and to listen to their experiences of doing business in and around the Peak District. The input from FSB members will be used to inform BPD’s lobbying activities, not least in future discussions with the recently appointed Mayor of the East Midlands Combined County Authority.
